I recently took a master class in Jazz. My dear friend encouraged me to try. I honestly did not want to do it. The class consisted of trained dancers and the teacher himself sounded intimidating. As I waited in the waiting room, I watched all the ex-dancers come in. I grew extremely uncomfortable. Each of them had that great dancer vibe about them. For myself, I am known as the Zumba (dancing for the masses) instructor. I dance from my passion to dance. Certainly not trained. I danced as a kid, but I complained too much about pain in my feet to my mom. As a result, she withdrew me from dance class. Must have been my flat freaking feet that haunt me to this day.
The class started and I went straight to the back of the class. Luckily the room has no mirrors and low lighting. We started with a real great warm-up. Jose directed his dancers with the french ballet terms. Hello! I never took ballet. I was familiar of the terms from watching all those dance shows. I have to say, I was a little lost at first. I refused to give up. Jose then proceeded to introduce the dance routine. First round, I started to panic. I tried to keep an open mind and step by step I got through it. Jose had great music, he counted the beats like a pro 5, 6, 7, 8! Overall, I learned alot and was inspired by dancing next to real trained dancers! I was also grateful I didn't embarass my friend. I went out of my comfort zone and loved the feeling! Bonita lesson is do not be afraid to try something new. Look fear in the eye. What do you have to lose. Sometimes you just gotta believe.
